'El testamento del doctor Cordelier' está basada en la novela, de Robert Louis Stevenson, 'The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde'. La intriga que se presenta está dirigida por el director Jean Reinor. El doctor Cordelier, interpretado por Jean-Louis Barrault, un famoso psiquiatra, le confía a Maitre Joly, su abogado, un testamento a favor de Opale, un individuo siniestro, sádico y asesino. Cordelier presenta a Opale como un paciente al que le cuenta sus experiencias, pero pronto sabremos que Opale y Cordelier no son lo que parece.
