Gracias a una emboscada perpetrada por su banda, el peligroso Billy Bucklin consigue escapar durante su traslado a la cárcel de Yuma. Durante la fuga, el bandolero intenta a ayudar a que John McKay, otro prisionero, consiga su libertad, pero éste se niega. Lo que Bucklin no sabe es que McKay se aliará con el sheriff para salir de prisión por su propio pie. Eso sí, a cambio de la cabeza de Bucklin.
