Un brillant architecte, Jason Kemp, récemment paralysé à la suite d'un accident de voiture, passe ses journées à épier ses voisins. Il finit par connaître toutes leurs habitudes. Mais un jour, il est témoin d'une violente dispute entre Julian Thorpe, sculpteur de talent, et sa femme Ilene, qui disparaît brutalement.
